Description

We are looking for an Android specialist. The kind of person who has been mucking around in the codes since they were a kid, but has spent the last couple of years working with modern approaches and tooling. We need someone who understands the fundamentals of modular, reusable code and is able to discuss the pros and cons of various application architectures, frameworks and approaches to problems.

You'll be involved in building mobile apps for some of New Zealand's most iconic brands, including 2degrees, Mercury, NZ Olympic Committee and Fonterra.

Our team is close knit, we leave leave our egos at the door and all support each other to deliver quality work. As a member of the team we expect you to input into processes and technologies and to champion code quality through peer review and automation.

You won't necessarily have a degree, but you will have 3+ years professional experience.

Requirements

You have an attention to detail that borders on the obsessive, with a deep understanding of how technology impacts the end user experience. You think creatively and constantly look for new ways to innovate. We're looking for someone who takes pride and ownership in their work, and who has:

Mandatory

  • 3+ years commercial experience developing native Android applications
  • Commercial experience working with both Kotlin and Java
  • Understanding of dependency management and task automation
  • Solid experience with git
  • Experience with working with web services and various message formats esp. SOAP, REST, JSON, XML, JWT
  • Appreciation of design and desire to work in a creative environment
  • Understand and work well within clearly defined project constraints, such as client goals, technical considerations and budgets/schedules
  • Experience working with a wide range of devices, resolutions, pixel densities and capabilities
  • Experience optimising performance, managing CPU utilisation, memory usage etc
  • Knowledge of OS and device limitations

Desirable

  • Experience with Android NDK / C / C++
  • Experience with OSX
  • Experience with React Native
  • Experience with NodeJS, Ruby and or PHP frameworks
  • Experience with Fastlane
